This song was originally written in the Spring of 2006 right before I graduated high school. I was sitting in a sister witches room three stories above the flats of Lawrenceville listening to the birdsong & waiting for my life to begin.
This was the first song I started playing live at my first house shows when I started out as a solo artist in the Spring of 2007.
I re-recorded this song recently as a throwback memory & a reminder of just how far I've come since those hazed & long ago days in which I languished upon such seemingly lengthy waits...
lyrics
i am painting a building
though the paint has all run dry
and i hate to admit it
the whole time, you were on my mind
and i can hear the doves
they're cooing outside that third story window
and i can hear them congregate
and i wish i could relate
upon rooftops way up high
watch the city bustlin' by
ooh, ooh
i cant wait for summer rain
long flowing skirts trailing behind
nothing more to try and hide
no more feelings left to deny...
oh the doves they coo for spring
the doves they coo for they coo for me...
the doves they coo for spring...
oh they coo, they coo for me...
